Why You'll Love These Bunny Sugar Cookies
- No fancy decorating! If you can spread frosting with a knife, place on some mini chocolate chips, and use a ziploc or piping bag to pipe some simple dots, you can make the cutest Easter cookies!

- Soft & delicious! While you can use premade dough, I strongly prefer my best sugar cookie recipe.
What you'll need:
- Sugar cookie dough: you can use your own recipe or premade dough, or use my favorite sugar cookie recipe.
- Frosting: I'm using my easy sugar cookie vanilla buttercream but you can make these with canned vanilla frosting.
- Bunny face cookie cutter: you can find the one I used in this cute set on Amazon.
- Red or pink food coloring: use my toothpick swipe method below to get a pastel pink.
- Piping or ziploc bag: You can use a real piping bag or a strong ziploc bag with corner snipped off.
- Optional: Small round tip or star piping tip (I use this set, which has both)
How to make & decorate bunny sugar cookies:
Step 1: Cut & Bake Cookies
Roll out your favorite premade or homemade sugar cookie recipe, then cut into bunny shaped face cookies. Bake on a parchment-lined cookie sheet according to the package or recipe instructions.

Step 2: Color Frosting
Divide frosting into two bowls (1¼ cups of white, ¾ cup for pink). To achieve a light pastel pink color, I like to use red gel food coloring, dip a toothpick into the gel, then swiping it into the frosting.
Scoop the pink frosting into a piping bag with round tip or ziploc bag with the corner cut off.

Step 3: Spread white frosting & add chocolate chips
Use a knife to spread white frosting in an even layer. Place (2) mini chocolate chips upside down for the eyes and (1) mini chocolate chip that has been cut in half for the smiling mouth.
Tip: For cleaner edges, I find it easiest to pipe an outline around the cookie & then fill it in prior to smoothing it with a knife.
Step 4: Pipe on pink details
Use a ziploc or piping bag to pipe on two pink lines for the bunny ears, (2) smaller pink dots for the cheeks, and (1) large dot in the center for the nose.
Tip: If your dots have a "point" on top, dip your finger in a little bit of water and gently tap the points to smooth them out.
More Decorating Ideas:
Idea 1: Use a star tip!
For a more textured look to your easter bunny cookies, you can use a star tip to pipe on the white frosting. See image below for a visual on how to decorate them.
Idea 2: Press into sanding sugar
If you want to hide some imperfections in the frosting, you can press your frosted cookie into white sanding sugar sprinkles. To do so, cover the cookie in white frosting, pipe on the pink lines for the ears, and then dip the cookie into a shallow bowl filled with white sanding sugar. Finish by adding the face details on top.
Storage, Freezing, Gifting
- Storing: Store in an airtight container for 2-3 days for optimal freshness. These cookies do not need refrigeration if using my homemade sugar cookie frosting.
- Freezing: If you want to make these ahead, I suggest freezing the unfrosted cookies and then decorating after they've been thawed.
- Gift them! Once the frosting develops a crust, you can carefully package them up in a plastic treat bag and finish off with a cute printable tag. You can even put a few of the packaged cookies into small Easter baskets for the perfect Easter treat! Easy Bunny Sugar Cookies (+ cutout recipe!)
Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar cookie dough softened to room temperature
- 2 cups white frosting (store-bought or homemade)
- red or pink food coloring
- mini chocolate chips

Instructions
- Cut out sugar cookie dough using a bunny face cookie cutter. Bake according to premade dough instructions or recipe instructions. Let cool.
- Divide frosting into 2 bowls. In one bowl, add 1 ¼ cups of white frosting and set aside. In the other bowl, add the remaining ¾ cup white frosting, dye pink and place in piping bag with small round tip.
- Spread white frosting on top of baked sugar cookies.
- Press (2) mini chocolate chips upside-down for the eyes and (1) mini chocolate chip cut in half for the mouth.
- With your pink frosting, pipe (2) lines for the bunny ears, (2) small dots for the bunny rosy cheeks, and (1) large dot for the bunny nose,
- Store in airtight container for 2-3 days or freeze for later.
