Hi, Kat! Did you try vanilla? You could use almond as well. Lemon works great because the citrus tones down the sweet! Because it is powdered sugar and water, the glaze will taste like powder sugar without additional flavoring. Hope this helps!

The icing was perfect. I am a seasoned baker and could never find the right glaze-this was exactly what I wanted. I used it to ice ricotta cookies and made an orange glaze for my Italian fig cookies- delicious and I love how quickly it sets up. I will be using this from now on. Thank you for a wonderful recipe. The glaze against the molasses and dried fruit is outstanding.
